Blog Posts

Blog Posts are an incredibly effective system if used correctly.

They are basically articles that you create for any number of reasons, ranging from updating your visitors on the latest news from you and your business all the way up to an online magazine style magazine.

Each ‘blog’ page (Can be called what ever you wish, will have a brief description of what the blog/article series is all about and it will display the posts/articles in a nice lay out ready for your customers to click on the ‘Read More’ button.

Here at Wananwebsite.net, we use a simple blog system to lay and talk about each of the additional features and options available for your new website.

Blog posts have a number of additional items to make them more effective and useful to your audience, we will work through each of them below in the most effective manner that we have found.

A new page will open which may feel a little daunting on first appearance, but don’t worry. We will look at the areas required now.

Arranging Blog Categories – If you have previously created categories for use in your blog, they will appear in the categories box on the right of the screen, Simply select the box next to the chosen category for your latest post. If this post will be in a new category, select +Add New Category and a text box will appear underneath it. Type in your new category and select the Add New Category button.

Tags – These are very handy for when your visitors are searching for specific content. If they searched for cat beds with stars, and you had a limited number of posts or products related, the tags found might well be ‘cat bed’ ‘stars’ or anything else entered to aid in the search. New tags are added by typing them in to the text box and clicking the Add button.

Adding Tags

Featured image – The featured image is displayed on the blog/magazine page, with a small intro the post/article contained. It also displays across the top of the page once the post/article is opened to view.

Find the Featured Image box on the right of the editor page.

Media Library options

If you have already uploaded the media previously, scroll through until you find it. If not choose ‘Upload Files’ and find it within your device. Once it has uploaded, the button on the bottom right will turn blue, saying ‘Set Featured Image’ Choose this.

You will see the featured image appear in the box, with an option to remove if you wished to change it.

Once you have finished, select the blue button ‘Publish’ towards the top right of the page.

You will see a link at the top left of the page under the title box, if you select this it will let you preview the post. A handy little tip for you is to right click the link, select open link in new tab. This will prevent you from navigating away from the edit page. Clicking the middle mouse button on the link also works.

All Posts – This page opens up a list of all your posts to date. You can choose to edit, bin or view them here. The edit page is the same one that is used for adding a new post.

That is the main process for adding and managing posts. We hope this little bit of training was helpful for you, but as always if you have any further questions or wish something else was incorporated within this little training package then please get in touch.
